Short Film
Dir: Alan Livesey
Prod: GRAFTER Films
Shot all in one continuous take, this film was a technical and physical challenge.
I created the lantern light by using small LED battery powered lights taped together on full power, this lit the actors sufficiently. I used dulling spray on the camera facing side of the lantern to disguise the LED lights and give the lantern a blown out 'blooming effect'. I also had an ice light attached to a boom pole following the action to give some 'moonlight' to separate the actors from the dark background.
The blocking for the piece was key, changing the pace, creating visual interest and altering who we align with throughout. Using the smallest crew possible I operated the gimbal with a spotter and through rehearsals during daylight we managed to get the movements down to a T.
